Message from the President

斉藤 智

Ever since its founding in 1967, KIRIHARA SHOTEN has for five decades had the great privilege of serving numerous teachers and learners as an educational publisher of textbooks and reference materials. If I may be allowed to take pride in only one thing, it would be the effectiveness of our goods and services, as expressed to us by our customers over the years.

There is a form that used within our company called the “Monitor Card,” which has served as a valuable communication tool with teachers. Through this form, our sales representatives and telephone customer service operators report on the impressions and sometimes severe criticisms from our customers regarding our products, and they are passed on to our editorial department or managers at the head office for review. The criticisms include not only comments regarding the contents of the book in terms difficulty of use in the classroom, insufficient or unclear explanations, but also quality control issues such as the quality and trim sizes of the book paper and other manufacturing issues. Although we cannot address all of the demands expressed in these “monitor cards,” we always try our best to improve our goods and services, and we make great efforts to explain to our customers why we cannot do certain things.

Kirihara Shoten aims to be a publisher that will be the first place for teachers and students to turn to for superior textbooks and learning materials. The ideal textbooks and learning materials that we are aiming to create will not be based on lofty idealistic visions but on the educational needs of teachers and learners and on a relationship of integrity and trust.

“Integrity” is a word that is understood in our global society and we believe it is one of the superior characteristics of the Japanese people. With integrity — integrity in education, integrity to our valued customers, and integrity to craftsmanship, we at Kirihara Shoten make this pledge to continue earning your trust.

Kirihara Shoten K.K.
President
